511 Gallery Lake Placid at 2461 Main Street is pleased to present its new exhibition: Science and Nature. Nature is all things known and unknown. Science is the formal method by which nature is studied. Various techniques used by this group of artists represent and interpret forms, structures, and the ideas of scientific studies. For example, photographer Jocelyne Alloucherie traveled to Newfoundland to study icebergs. Alloucherie used her camera to capture her observations. She describes icebergs as: "non-sites on the sea where you lose all references to scale and get surrounded by ice". Another artist, P.J. Labarge, interprets her scientific study of anatomical movement into sculptures. Labarge's use of clay defines the permanent and the infinite in nature. Georgeanne Gaffney's Lily Petal, is a composition of mixed media on wood panel. Gaffney's study of nature is transformed into structured paintings both vibrant and still.
