511 Gallery is pleased to announce "Moments: New Paintings by Alex Schuchard", a solo exhibition of new paintings by the New York artist, which will open at 511 Gallery Lake Placid, with an artist's reception on Friday, January 15th, from 6 to 8 p.m.

"Moments: New Paintings by Alex Schuchard" presents twenty canvases that reflect the artist's interest in "pushing the notion of beauty and capturing the essence of landscape". Schuchard's paintings are direct representations of forms that exist within the natural world, but they become more and more abstract through the color choices and paint application employed by the artist. Schuchard has cropped his new compositions to the edge of the canvas, conveying the notion that the viewer is seeing one small mark in a much larger world. Schuchard states "I want these works to convey a possibility as much as describe a reality we recognize."

Schuchard, a native of St. Louis, received his BFA in Painting from Washington University in St. Louis and an MFA in Painting from the University of Delaware. He has exhibited his work widely throughout the country, and his paintings have been acquired by such corporations as Anheiser Busch and Proctor and Gamble for their permanent collections.
